THE BULLETIN - WEEK 15

Tough To Stomach

Top seed and the Null Set Club take it in the gut during the first round of the Big Daddy Championship Series

MEDIA VOID - “A perfectly good season, shot to hell,” was the sentiment in the Gambino camp after the Week 15 games, and the opening round of the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS). As for the four-time BDFL Champion Cheetahs, Butch Neal says, “The cream always rises to the top in the playoffs.” In the first round of the BDCS, the Riverchase Cheetahs outscored the Gulf Coast Gamblers, 42-35. It was a bitter loss for the Dixie Mafia, who have not won a BDFL title since their first two years in the league (when they snookered everyone with card tricks and sleight-of-hand). In this weekend’s showdown of “no-limit” Texas Hold ‘Em at the Beau Rivage, the Sin Wagon rolled “all in” and the Gamblers were just not ready, and didn’t have the cards to hold off the Cheetahs, who will now advance to the semi-finals of the Big Dance.

Wildcats Whip (A.W.) Dogs:

Well, one of the Null Set Club was sure to lose in the first round of the BDCS, as the Cats and Dogs squared-off near Five Points West. The Cats – or Wildcats – or BioCats came out scratching and clawing against the Brookside Dogs. Mark’s Mutts never recovered from the opening barrage, and ended up tucking their tails between their legs and taking a good, old-fashioned, A.W. The “James Gang” mauled the Dogs, 60-27. So, the Wildcats advance in the Tournament of Champions, while the Brookside Boys will close out the season in the loser’s bracket of the BDCS, and thus end another disappointing season in the BDFL. The Dogs’ losing streak is now at 19-years and counting.

Blitz Pull Ultimate Choke Job:

The Druid City Blitz will remain a member of the Null Set Club for at least another year. Jerome Fritz pulled a “choke job” in the opening round of the BDCS that may have not been equaled in BDFL hist’ry. Okay, let’s see if we can get this right: 1) Fritz started a RB (Gerhart) who was hurt, and didn’t play; 2) Fritz put a RB on the bench (Mendenhall) who scored two touchdowns [12-points]; and 3) Fritz scored a measly 10-points against the defending champion Wooden Warriors, who were primed to be upset, scoring only 16-points. The final score from the Black Creek Reservation: Woodies 16 – Blitz 10. The Tribe “survives and advances.” Meanwhile, Jerry will have to live with the horror of losing the big one just like when his high school team was shot down by Lowndes Academy and Morgan Academy in the early 1980’s (or late 70’s). The Blitz – however – did capture some awards in Week 15, for benching the wrong running back, they earned the “Bonehead” honor, and for scoring a paltry 10-points, they pick up the “Toilet Seat Team of the Weak” award.

Sleds Top Nauts:

Allyson’s visit to the Big Dance ended quickly. The Jugtown Juggernauts were dismantled by the Fairfield PowerSleds in the opening round of the BDCS, 30-20, at Ed Bruce Field at Rocket Stadium. Clearly, the ‘Nauts were not ready for prime time, and not ready (yet) to escape the vile, and evil clutches of the Null Set Club. The Bra Burners will have to return to square-one and the old proverbial chalkboard to try and figure out a way to compete more consistently, when (and if) they return to the championship bracket. As for the Mean Machine, they are hitting full stride at just the right time, and look to be a force to be reckoned with in next weekend’s semi-finals of the Big Daddy Championship Series.

Mullet Recap (like anybody cares):

The Grenade Brigade was embarrassed by the lowly, Fightin' Slovaks down in the loser’s bracket, where the EuroTrash Talkers are clearly very, very comfortable. “That’s my goal,” said ASlo, “To win the Big Mullet Series.” No other team is happy to be here, especially the Commissioner, who had a pretty good team this year. Iron said, “I hate the Mullet.”

In other Mullet action… the Wizards edged the Sloth Monsters by one, 22-21; the Magic City Mayors topped the Duncanville Armadillos, 29-20; and the Smoke Rise Woosiers put a horrific, A.W. on the Benton Bullets, 39-13, to avenge a regular season loss, that probably kept the Woo Crew out of the Big Dance.

In case you missed it…

Except for the Wildcats, members of the Null Set Club (Blitz, Dogs, and Nauts) in the BDCS took a “baby seal” clubbing in the opening round of the Championship Bracket. So, to answer the question: Can one Null Set Team rise to the top this season and capture a championship? The answer is maybe, but they only have one chance and that chance rides with the Western Hills Wildcats.
