The Bulletin - Week 15 From underneath a rock in Media Void
Week 15 - “No Upsets” in Upside-Down BDCS Running Backs are Back!
#1 Seed – Duncanville Armadillos won (in OT) #2 Seed – Black Creek Wooden Warriors won in A.W. fashion #3 Seed – Magic City Mayors advanced #4 Seed – Oak Mountain Fighting Slovaks won with MNF comeback
According to WARTS (and the Elias Sports Bureau), for the first time ever, all the top seeds won in Round One (the Quarterfinals) of the Big Daddy Championship Series. And now there’s a 75-percent chance that the BDCS will produce a first-time BDFL Champion! (‘Dillos, Woodies, and Slovaks have never hoisted the Grand Daddy.)
“Never, Never, Never” Say-Die Wooden Warriors Win 8th Straight with A.W. of Commissioner: Talk about being on a roll! The Black Creek Wooden Warriors just continue to win, win, win. In the First Round of the Big Daddy Championship Series, the Tribe put a Cherokee-ChoctAW-ChickasAW @$$-whippin’ on the Mineral Springs Grenadiers. It was never close; Final Score from New Castle, Kawliga 43 – Commish 10. The Woodies 0-7 start has been well-chronicled in The Bulletin, but so has their meteoric rise to the Semi-Finals of the BDCS on the wings and war-paint of 8-straight vict’ries. Old Bocephus’ winning streak has been “carried” by RB-Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, who is getting close to the all-time, NFL rushing record, in what is now “supposed to be” a passing league. A.P. used to be a perennial first-round draft pick in the BDFL, but has slid down some in the last few years. This season, Kawliga’s selection is leading him to the Promised Land (and not the Bad Lands). Peterson had an 82-yard TD run in Week 15 to lead the Tribe, and Hime had 18-total points from his RBs in his A.W. of Big Brother.
Monday Night Magic! Slovaks Run Past Power Sleds in 51-41 Slugfest: When Adam Slovensky “reached” early in the Miller Genuine Draft and selected PK - Sebastian Janikowski, it looked (miraculously) like he actually knew what he was doing. In crunch time, in the Quarterfinal Round of the BDCS, the “SloToe” (even though he’s Polish) booted 5-field goals*, including two over 50-yards, for a 21-point week. Now, that certainly helped propel the EuroTrash Talkers to a 51-point week, but Mad Jack’s kicker had 17 (so, not a huge Slovak advantage). However, (and it pains the Bulletin to report it) in one of the greatest BDFL playoff efforts and comebacks of all time, the Slovaks entered Monday Night Football, trailing the Fairfield PowerSleds by a couple of points. It was a running back – Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans – who ripped the hearts out of the Mean Machine, with a 94-yard TD run, and gave ASlo the boost he needed to win his first-ever Fantasy Football Playoff Game, 51-41. *[Note: Prior to Week 15, Janikowski may have received some pointers from All-World and NAIA All-American placekicker Ron Slovensky (Birmingham Vulcans, Livingston Tigers, and Minor Tigers), who is the father of ASlo and uncle to Chris, Jerome, & Jaimie.]
The Slovak Second – Upped to a Minute: “The Slovaks are curious about who we are going to play in Round 2. Sorry Mr. Barnes... My feet are burning, tippee toe, tippee toe, tippee toe... said Chris Johnson as he strolled in from 94 yards! BOOM goes the Slovaks! Bring on the Bra's or the Road Kill's... Slovaks own both! Out!” said ASlo (in an email that may have went straight to your Junk Folder or SPAM file).
It’s the “Holiday Armadillos” in OT Over the Jilted Juggernauts: The Slovaks will play the Duncanville Armadillos in Round Two of the Big Dance. So, the BDFL is guaranteed a “complete and total newby” as one of the teams in the Big Daddy Bowl that will vie for the championship in Week 17. The “Rookie of the New Millennium,” Kurt Prewitt, gets to continue in the BDCS. In Round One, the Armadillos and Jugtown Juggernauts stood toe-to-toe for four quarters, and then some. The Bulletin had to consult WARTS and the Commissioner’s Office on the outcome of this game, and the BDCS overtime rules and regulations. In what is being called “Running Back Week,” in BDFL circles, the Road Killers had Zero from their RB tandem, while the Rice Rockets received a dozen. However, former Foley and Crimson Tide WR, Julio Jones, came up huge for the ‘Dillos, with 6-points. But, the deciding points (in a 31-31 tie “on paper”) was a 53-yard FG by Dan Carpenter of the Miami Dolphins, that broke the tie in OT in favor of KP. As for A.E., she curled up and “cried like a girl” in the midst of the agony (of defeat).
Mayors Maul Mildcats 26-6: The only surviving “former” champion remaining in the BDCS this season, the Magic City Mayors, wasted little time mauling the Western Hills Wildcats in Round One. The Cronies “out-classed” the “James Gang,” 26-6 in a battle at Fair Park. The BioCats had a pretty good ‘bounce back’ year in 2012 after a one-season BDFL hiatus, but they definitely laid an egg in Round One of the Big Dance. As for Mayor Arrington, the Cronies also took advantage of good RB play (12-points; Morris, Redskins) in Week 15, and a balanced attack to beat J.J. and improve their BDFL-best overall record to 11-4 on the season. Now, they’ll get the task in the semi-finals of trying to stop the Warpath of the Woodies.
Big Mullet Series: Typically, the Bulletin doesn’t report much on the Big Mullet Series, we just let one of your staff go down to the Gulf Coast for some R&R, and make sure the League Office gets a big expense check. So, in BMS action: The Cheetahs whipped (AW) the Gamblers; Bullet was blitzed by the Blitz (AW); the Sloths slipped past the Dogs; and the Woo Crew won against the Wizards.
Quote of the week: “I.D. hell,” said Albert Reeves (age 17 at the time - with the legal age being 18 - at a 1982 New Year’s Eve, Hank Williams Jr. concert at the BJCC). Needless to say, the dude sold him two beers without ever seeing Albert’s I.D. |
