I Coulda Beena Contender

After being knocked out of the BDCS early, Da Blitz and seven other teams will be mumbling this line often after Week 14

MULLET POINT - I've never seen the movie, but have heard the line all my life. If you're like me, you may have thought it was from one of the Rocky movies which all proved to be rip-offs of Chuck Wepner's real life. The line is from the 1954 classic On The Waterfront starring Marlon Brando, Rod Steiger and Karl Malden. A crime drama about union violence and corruption among longshoremen, it won eight Academy Awards. The famous line comes in a backseat scene between brothers Charley (Steiger) and Terry Malloy (Brando). Terry was a promising boxer until mob union boss Johnny Friendly had Charley get Terry to throw a fight, so he could win money betting against him. In one of the most famous scenes in film history, Terry reminds Charley that if it had not been for fixing the fight, "I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it. It was you, Charley".

The Pucker Factor pressure mounts as the BDCS nears AUDUBON - After Week 12 action we are left with two piles of teams in the chase to get to the Big Daddy Championship Series (BDCS). One group, the Contenders have pretty much stamped their ticket to the BDFL's post-season Big Dance. This would be the Mayors, Armadillos, Wildcats, Juggernauts and Slovaks. The other group, the Pretenders consist of the Dogs, Wooden Warriors, Woosiers, Bullets, Grenadiers, PowerSleds, Cheetahs and Sloth Monsters. Out of these 13 teams only eight will qualify for the league's elite playoff series, the BDCS. The Contenders can't tank and the Pretenders must perform.
