The Woosiers strut on the gridiron like John Travolta did on the disco dance floor in Saturday Night Fever

HAYDEN – In the 1977 blockbuster Saturday Night Fever Tony Manero (John Travolta) was the king of the New York disco scene. This movie had it all...violence, sex, drugs, music, power, fame and fashion. It was "must see" for formidable 10th graders back at Gardendale High School who were just learning how to drive. It helped shape an era for better, or worse, but it had its influence. Speed ahead to 2011 some 34 years later and some things have changed. The movie is now considered a "classic" and few since have had its cultural impact. Travolta has probably seen his best acting days. Disco was not that bad compared to today's hip hop and New York can claim to have survived both disco and 911. The classes of 78, 79, 80, 81 and 82 have all graduated and moved on to college, work, family and life. Yet every fall, we gather in the BDFL to keep in touch, remember the good ol' days, have some fun and keep Staying Alive.
