AUDUBON
PLACEIn 2026, the BDFL went a "Back to the Future" in a 1981 DMC
DeLorean to 2076 to celebrate the country's tricentennial and
take a glimpse at an expanded NFL consisting of a whopping 48
teams. Within the next 50 years, the NFL is predicted to be in
16 new markets and four new divisions. During the 2026 season,
each BDFL team represened one of these new NFL clubs and
competed against each other in Week 6. In a Polaroid snapshot of
2076, U.S. "video" markets have continued to merge (San
Antonio/Austin, Sacramento/Stockton/Modesto, etc.) leading to
more statewide and regional team names similar to Arizona, New
England, Tennessee, Minnesota in today's game. Acceptance of
American football has continued to grow in neighboring
countries, overseas and into the Pacific Rim. Fifty years prior,
each BDFL represented one of these future NFL clubs and competed
against each other in Week 6 of the 2026 BDFL season. BDFL team
assignments included Texas Toros (Armadillos), Alabama Hammers
(Vulcans), Memphis Jungle Kings (Mayors), Florida Renegades
(PowerSleds), St. Louis Spirit (Cheetahs), San Diego Seals
(Sloth Monsters), Oklahoma Outlaws (Bullets), Hawaii Voyagers
(Bandits), Utah Blizzard (Wildcats), Sacramento Swarm
(Freebirds), Quebec Acadians (Gamblers), Mexico City Matadors
(Bellcows), Berlin Blitzkrieg (Blitz), Rome Gladiators
(Grenadiers), London Monarchs (Juggernauts) and Barcelona
Dragons (Dogs). For Throwback Week 2027, the BDFL is exploring
an ideal NFL where the oldies like the Baltimore Colts, Houston
Oilers, Oakland Raidiers, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis
Cardinals still play along side original franchises in
Indianapolis, Phoenix, Nashville and Las Vegas. Throw in timely
mergers over the years with more organic domestic and
international expansion and you have the "Ideal NFL". For
Throwback Week 2027, the BDFL will be fixing all the franchise
moves, expansion, team nicknames and all the other strategic
mistakes that professional football has made since 1960.
