THE BULLETIN 2015 |
Living under a rock - It is to be a person who lives in isolation from and has limited knowledge of what is happening in the world around them. Used to describe an ignorant or obtuse person. Usually someone who lives in the basement of their mother's house.
Media Void - A ficticious city in a ficticious country which is free from all types of media and information. Where everybody in the city/state wanders aimlessly around uninformed about everything from the news, to weather, sports and politics.

Two Hands Win in OT - Bullets Hold On to Vict’ry in OT:The Evil Las Vegas Oddsmakers (ELVO) put the Benton Bullets down as a 5.5-point underdog in the First Week of the 2015, BDFL Season against the Druid City Blitz. And, a lot of suckers were suckered into that sucker bet. It looked pretty good for Jerry Fritz Gritz Blitz going into Monday Night Football Action with the score knotted at 13-13. However, the patented Bullerino Defense dug in on MNF and held the Blitz “scoreless,” and won a thriller in OT. “Well, let’s just put it this way,” said Bullet. “Whenever people start writing me off, is when I’m the most dangerous. Now, everybody will think twice before putting down the Benton Bullets. You can’t make this stuff up… an overtime vict’ry in Week One… yeah, we’ll take it.”
Another Hand Wins Another Game in OT:After all of his Draft Night babbling about a name change, Hime Hand came out on Opening Weekend with a performance that would have made any “blood-thirsty savage” proud. The war path led to an 18-18, OT, win against the Riverchase/Southside Cheetahs (who earned the Bonehead of the Week award in the process). “I don’t have anything against the process,” said Butch. “Old Bocephus, Kawliga, Chief Nock-a-Homer – whatever you want to call him – just beat me fair and square. In fact, he’s got his job back of guarding the cooler on Saturday on the Quad.”
Dogs Dump Duncanville: Mr. Mark Burr will be on the Quad signing autographs this Saturday and rubbing it in the face of K.P., after the Brookside Dogs dominated play over the weekend, and outscored the Duncanville Armadillos, 28-24. “Keep hope alive,” said Dog. “I have every intention of ending my personal 21-year losing streak in the BDFL, and this is a good start.”
Nauts Return to the BDFL and Edge the Slovaks: After a year of excuses, Allyson returned to the BDFL. It was a happy homecoming, as the Dreaded Schedule Maker (DSM) matched her up against the Fightin’ Slovaks. “This was better that Match.com, or Farmers Only.com, or eHarmony,” said a joyful A.E. following the game. “I mean I would have lost to at least half of the other BDFL teams in Week One, but drawing the Slovaks was very beneficial. It’s good to be back.” The Final Score from Rocket Stadium in Gardendale is still on the scoreboard. It reads: Juggernauts 20, SloWaks 19, which is ironic, because as everyone knows, there is no “W” in Slovaks.
Defending Champs Send Message: “If you want to send a message – call UPS, or Fed Ex, or the U.S. Mail,” said Tommy Todd. “We just went out loose in Week One and dominated, plain and simple.” In a rematch of last season’s Big Daddy Bowl, the Fairfield PowerSleds were – once again – no match for the Smoke Rise Woosiers. The Woo Crew picked up Big Daddy of the Week honors by trouncing the Sleds, 46-31. Mad Jack and Mean Machine are probably wishing they would have caused more trouble during the Miller Genuine Draft. We could be looking at the “return” of Jack Slovensky.
Gamblers Chalk Up A.W. in Demolition of Sloths: The Gulf Coast Gamblers scored 44-points in Week One and put an old-fashioned, proverbial, A.W. on the Sloth Monsters. This one was never close as the Dixie Mafia stormed out to a big lead and then put it in cruise-control to roll to a 32-point vict’ry. As for Mukes, he took the loss in stride, and did not make any excuses. “We just got beat,” said the Son of Slim. “They took us out behind the wood shed and wore us out. The crowd was against us, the refs were blind, and the footballs were slippery and especially difficult to hold onto with only three fingers on each hand, and no (plausible) thumbs to speak of.”
Wizards Whip Commissioner: Well, this off-season Mr. Roger Goddell has made the BDFL Commissioner (Iron Hand) look - pretty much - like a genius. Then, the season started. In the kickoff weekend of Fantasy Football, the Commissioner’s Grenadiers were whipped by the Pasco County Wizards in A.W.-fashion, 36-14. It was ugly early for the Sharp Dressed Man. Meanwhile, the Dixie Dusters partied into the wee hours at the original Hooter’s in Tampa Town with Jabo and his entourage and Parks’ entourage.
Where are the Wildcats? In Vict’ry Circle: The James Gang stayed away on Miller Genuine Draft night, just like Parks, and it paid dividends. The Western Hills Wildcats benefited from a selection of players by someone else and began the 2015 season with a big win over the Magic City Mayors, 38-25. “First I lost out on the BDFL Spirit award to Dog and all of his Synaflex Flexing,” said Alan. “And, then to add insult to injury… I get beat by the Mildcats in Week One. I can’t catch a break. I’m going fishing.”
Meanwhile, in the Jr. BDFL: The Benton Butterflies (Meredith) topped the Lowndes County Labradors (Milton) 38-22. Kevin Hand’s Fultondale Renegades outscored the Selma Southpaws (Matthew) 38-34, and the Fieldstown Dodo Birds (Ben) edged FSA - the Future Slovaks of America (Harry) - by four points in AFC (All for Cousins) action. Over in the NFC (Not for Cousins), the Arrington Brothers hooked up in Week 1 action, with the Hooks & Lures (Alex) getting beaten by the Rebel City Netters (Ethan) 47-23. The Hoover Triple Threats (Dalton) hammered the B’ham Barn Burners (Jackson) 54-32, and the Free State of Winston County Walkers (Walkers) destroyed the Shades Mtn. Grizzly Burrs (Jacob) 50-26.
